Kinesiology on Mayne Island

Whether you are recovering from an injury, managing joint pain, or simply want to build the fitness, strength, and balance needed to fully enjoy island life, you don’t have to do it alone. As a Kinesiologist and Personal Trainer right here on Mayne Island, I provide expert, specialized guidance tailored to your goals.

I offer three highly personalized ways to work together locally:

1-on-1 Sessions

Dedicated, hands-on guidance for your specific needs.

In-home 1-on-1 sessions are designed for individuals who want the highest level of personalized care. This is ideal if you want to do exercise correctly and make quick progress. We go through everything together.

What to Expect:

  • Comprehensive Assessment: We start by discussing your history, present circumstances, and goals. I assess how you move, and any specific tasks, body stats, or movements relevant to your goals.
  • Customized Exercise Plan: I provide you with pictures, videos, and a way to keep track of the exercises we cover. It is normal to start with baseline exercises and then progress to more challenging exercises.
  • Expert Form Correction: As a Kinesiologist, I ensure you are moving safely to prevent injury and maximize results.
  • Flexible Locations: I typically come to your home. It is also a possibility to use the Community Centre Gym or Dinner Bay Park.

Hybrid Coaching

The perfect blend of in-person guidance and frequent check-ins.

Hybrid coaching is a great way to get all the benefits from in-person training, but at a fraction of the cost. We meet in person to make sure you have a good handle on the exercises. Then, we do short virtual check-ins to keep you on track. This is perfect if you are wanting accountablity.

How the Hybrid Program Works:

  1. In-Person Meeting: We meet up once per month in person to create a plan for the next month. We establish your routine, check your exercise form, and ensure you are confident with the exercises.
  2. Custom App Workouts: Your personalized plan is delivered directly to your phone or tablet via the Positive Shift Academy app. You can follow along with video demonstrations at home, whenever it suits you.
  3. Weekly Virtual Check-Ins: We connect weekly via Zoom or phone to review your progress, adjust your program, and keep you accountable.
  4. Ongoing Support: You get the reassurance of having an expert in your corner, monitoring your progress and making changes as soon as the need arises.
  5. Nutrition Tracking: You can also track the foods you are eating on the app. I am happy to provide guidance around fitness and nutrition.

Private Small Group Classes

The attention of personal training with the energy of a small group — typically 2–8 people.

If you want the personalization of private training alongside the motivation and camaraderie of moving with others, Private Small Group Classes are a great fit. You get the same careful, Kinesiologist-led coaching as a 1-on-1 session, shared with a partner or small group of people working toward similar goals.

What to Expect:

  1. Small Group, Big Focus: The smaller the group of people the more time we can focus on correct technique. We also work through training concepts like heart rate zones, mobility, and functional strength.
  2. Tailored to the Group: Each class is built around the fitness level and goals of the people in it. Expect a balanced mix of strength, mobility, and functional movement.
  3. A Supportive Environment: Train with people you know, or join a group already running. Either way, you’ll find a welcoming space to work hard and have fun.
  4. Flexible Locations on Mayne Island: Classes can run at the Community Centre Gym, Dinner Bay Park, or another spot that works for your group.
  5. Bring Your Own Group: Gather a few friends, neighbours, or family and I’ll design the program around what you want to work on together.
