Strength and Balance Classes

In a fun group setting, we go through exercises to improve your strength and balance. This is designed for older adults but anyone can benefit from improved strength and balance. Learn more here.

Online Zoom Classes

This is a moderate intensity class that uses just bodyweight for exercises. There will be some standing exercises like squats and some mat exercises. You can use a chair instead of a yoga mat. I always offer different variations of exercises to support folks with different ability levels. Tuesdays and Thursdays 8 AM – 8:30 AM. Learn more here.

Saturday Fitness Class

This 45-minute class includes a mobility warm-up, cardiovascular exercises, strength exercises, and stretching. We will make use of yoga mats for core strength and stretching exercises. Please bring a mat if you have one. Saturdays 9 AM- 9:45 AM at The Mayne Island Community Centre. Learn more here.

“A quick note to let you know how effective the Strength and Balance classes have already been for me. I jokingly said that my goal was to put on my socks while standing unaided. Someone asked if that was even possible. So I tried. And I did it! Success! How did that happen so quickly? I think partly because of the strengthening exercises, but also in large part because of the increased confidence you inspired. What a great feeling! I also seem to be much more confident in my daily activities since taking these classes. I am a bit stronger and better balanced. So thank you for these well thought out classes that I wasn’t sure I needed, but did.”

“After attending two 6 week sessions of Strength and Balance with Tim Begley here on Mayne Island, I’m much more aware of my balance…(I do use a cane for extra strength)….recently, at Sandown Mall in Sidney, I encountered a crowd on the sidewalk in front of a store as I approached from the street onto the sidewalk…as I walked toward the crowd, my immediate response was to balance, as Tim has shown: big toe, litte toe, heel…my brain reacted balance, big toe, little toe, heel…it really worked…I made it around the crowd, and didn’t lose my balance…nor, did I hurt myself by falling down!…😊👍🏻…it seems to be my new mantra:  big toe, little toe, heel…..this class has helped me gain awareness of my balance…thank you.”
