Mayne Island is officially IN for the ParticipACTION Community Challenge 2026 — Canada’s annual nationwide push to get communities moving. From June 1 to June 30, every activity logged by an islander counts toward our community total, and the most active community in each size category wins national recognition (and a chance at a $100,000 prize to be spent to support physical activity on Mayne Island). This page has some useful info so you know what is happening and how to participate.
Two Ways To Participate
- Take the individual Pledge: Stating June 1st you can “pledge” to be more active in the month of June. Make sure you use your local Mayne Island postal code when you take the pledge. I will add a link here when it is available.
- Sign up as an organization: Do you have a social club, non-profit, or private organization on Mayne? Sign up here and log the number of participants at your active events.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to attend a group event to count?
No. Any physical activity counts — a solo walk, gardening that gets your heart rate up, paddling around Bennett Bay, a yoga video at home. Log it all. You can complete the log here.
What activities qualify?
Anything that gets you moving: walking, running, cycling, swimming, paddling, yoga, strength training, dance, gardening, hiking, even active housework. If it counts as movement, it counts for Mayne Island.
What if I forget to log a session?
Try to log everything daily so that nothing gets forgotten. If you forget to log something, you can still log it with a date that is in the past.
Does Mayne Island win anything?
We have a chance to win $100,000, or smaller prizes. We have already received some funding from ParticipACTION to support physical activity programs. Bragging rights are also at stake. We are up against large cities that have paid employees, pools, and gyms. Imagine our small island beating all the big cities!
How do I get more involved?
Reach out to the local organizers — we’re always looking for event hosts, volunteers to help promote the challenge, and partner organizations. Email mayneislandparticipaction@gmail.com
