Why I Write This Blog

I have been blogging for a few years now on the positive shift personal training site. I really enjoy writing and making videos. I find a lot of what I want to write about doesn’t quite fit the branding of my business in Burnaby. So, I am branching out here to share more stories about the things that I do.

What Are You Up To? He Asked Me

A good friend of mine encouraged me to be “up to something” in the world. This phrase really stuck with me. I think about it a lot. What am I up to?

I am driven by pain and by inspiration. I am very motivated to help people live happier and healthier lives. I want to see people making improvements, experiencing growth, and becoming healthier. Two things really shape this.

First, I lost my father when I was 25 years old. He lost the battle with alcohol, diabetes and cirrhosis of the liver. Preventable disease shortened his life considerably. He was 63 years old.

When I was 14 he sat me down and told me that he was an alcoholic. He wanted me to know so that I understood what alcohol was doing to his life. He wanted a better life for my brother and I. For the next 11 years I watched and offered support as he pursued a healthier path. He took many steps to be healthier. Watching him slip away is the most painful experience I have been through.

I came away with a tremendous amount of drive to live a healthier life and inspire others to do the same. This is what I am up to!

Also Driven By Inspiration

A few years after my father passed away, my grandpa passed away at 101 years old. He lived an incredible life.

I have had some time to reflect and compare the two stories. I don’t know what is a stronger motivator; to avoid sickness or, to pursue optimal health.

Here I Go

I have told many people this but never really put it out there. I started this blog so I could just share things like this without wondering how it fits the brand. This is the first post. Fell free to stay tuned for more.
