Why I Started A Personal Blog

I have been blogging for a few years now. I really enjoy writing and making videos. I find a lot of what I want to write about doesn’t quite fit the branding of my professional blog. So, to practice writing and share whatever comes up, I have started a personal blog.

You are welcome to read it and subscribe for more. I don’t know how it is going to end up looking. At the moment, I plan to tell stories that relate to my experiences as an entrepreneur, father and personal trainer (in no particular order).

What Are You Up To? He Asked Me

A good friend of mine encouraged me to be “up to something” in the world. This phrase really stuck with me. I think about it a lot. What am I up to?

I am driven by pain and by inspiration. I am very motivated to help people live happier and healthier lives. I want to see people making improvements, experiencing growth, and becoming healthier. Two things really shape this.

First, I lost my father when I was 25 years old. He lost the battle with alcohol, diabetes and cirrhosis of the liver. Preventable disease shortened his life considerably. He was 63 years old.

When I was 14 he sat me down and told me that he was an alcoholic. He wanted me to know so that I understood what alcohol was doing to his life. He wanted a better life for my brother and I. For the next 11 years I watched and offered support as he pursued a healthier path. He took many steps to be healthier. Watching him slip away is the most painful experience I have been through.

I came away with a tremendous amount of drive to live a healthier life and inspire others to do the same. This is what I am up to!

Also Driven By Inspiration

A few years after my father passed away, my grandpa passed away at 101 years old. He lived an incredible life.

I have had some time to reflect and compare the two stories. I don’t know what is a stronger motivator; to avoid sickness or, to pursue optimal health.

Here I Go

I have told many people this but never really put it out there. I started this blog so I could just share things like this without wondering how it fits the brand. This is the first post. Fell free to stay tuned for more. If you are looking for more fitness, rehabilitation and nutrition oriented posts, check out my fitness blog.
